What Works

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) increased year-over-year online fundraising by 33.8% last year with a little help from a year-end hijack page.

A Good Hijacking

CBF wanted to try an extra high-visibility push as part of an overall ambitious new year-end fundraising plan. We helped CBF create an overlay for their homepage for the month of December. Also known as a hijack, the page would appear on top of the homepage, "hijacking" the visitor to see content concentrated in one area. Visitors had the option to either close the window or click through to a special year-end giving donation form.

CBF's Year-End hijack page:

  • Made it easy to make a year-end gift or become a monthly donor
  • Offered donors information that matters: what the donation could fund and how to donate
  • "Hijacked" $60,000 in revenue that accounts for 22% of total online revenue raised in December 2010
  • Contributed to increase in year-over-year online fundraising by 33.8%
