5 Quick Ways to Improve Year-End Giving Results

For many organizations, year-end giving campaigns account for a large portion of annual revenue.  With the ongoing recession and consumer confidence falling again in October, organizations can benefit from taking a few extra steps to encourage donations to meet revenue goals this year.

Here are 5 quick ways to enhance your year-end giving results with minimal effort and investment.

1. Let supporters campaign for you. Encourage donors to submit their personal story on why they give to your organization.  You can use these heartfelt stories as compelling content for your web page, email appeals and social media. 

2. Capture web page visitors.  Add a light box to your home page to deliver your year-end campaign message to all visitors.  Be sure to include a link to your donation form to make it easy for visitors to give.  Chesapeake Bay Foundation generated 22% of all online revenue for their 2010 year-end campaign using a light box. 3. Create a Challenge. Secure a donor or multiple donors to offer a matching gift.  Set up each challenge with a strict deadline to spur supporters to give immediately before the offer expires.  This is a great opportunity to leverage social media channels to quickly get the word out.

4. 5. Use the Tax Deadline.  Create urgency by including the year-end deadline for donations to be tax deductible.  Include this message in all communications and use it as a standalone message during the last week of December.
