Volunteers of America is a spiritually-based nonprofit organization providing local human service programs and the opportunity for individual and community involvement. Through our thousands of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 million people in over 400 communities in 44 states.
Studies show that communication with donors via multiple channels provides for the best return in all channels use. With an online presence and a steady direct mail program in place, Volunteers of America understood that to move the needle they were going to need to integrate their efforts to achieve success.
Project Goals

Mimic direct mail campaigns online and include a specific online landing page to encourage donations through a new channel.

Keep a consistent message in front of the donor by converting direct mail messaging into online pieces keeping similar design elements-colors, images-as well familiar text and stories.

Develop an annual integrated strategy with key direct mail campaigns that translate well into online appeal campaigns-shorter, more direct asks with the same look and feel as the mail pieces.

Online revenue from calendar year 2009 to calendar 2010 saw a 148% increase.

Year-end online revenue-the most active month in terms of both number of gifts and revenue-resulted in a 146% increased December 2009 to December 2010.
